This unprecedented database of geographic data covering the entire world is comprised of several geo-information layers including a Digital Terrain Models (DTM), a satellite orthoimage and a Texture map.
Invalid areas of the Worldwide Topographic Data (obtained during the 2000 Shuttle Radar Topography Mission - SRTM) have been completely reprocessed, using DTMs from Infoterra France’s data archive, to create a complete, homogenous and accurate 100-meter resolution DTM. GTOPO30 data was also incorporated to include the Polar areas that are not usually covered in a worldwide digital map, but necessary to ensure a complete coverage of the entire earth. The Orthoimagery is a combination of EarthSat NaturalVue dataset derived from 15-meter resolution Landsat-7-TM satellite images and NOAA AVHRR orthomosaïc of the Antarctica to obtain a complete coverage of the entire Earth. Finally, a texture map, resembling a coloured DTM, provides end-users with a more realistic representation of the environment.
The production capacity and calculation expertise have been successfully put to the test, making Infoterra France, in a few handful of experts in the world, capable of creating this quantity and quality of data.The totally homogenous database can be fully customised to use in a wide range of applications including Location Based Services, Environment Monitoring, Broadcasting and Medias, Tourism, and 3D navigation.
Considering the diversity of this product, Infoterra France has delegated a customer service team that will guide each client with customisations to ensure that they obtain the desired results for their project. Customisations can include anything from rescaling orthoimages into different levels of resolution (32, 16, 8, 5, 1 km, 500m, 100m, 15m) to creating texture maps with colour schemes determined by the client. Whether the database is used to create more realistic imagery backgrounds for localisation and navigation systems or used within GIS for land management and spatial data analysis, this unprecedented product is the largest scalable, flexible and totally consistent geo-database on the market.
