Infoterra France has developed an important suite of services for high resolution satellite imagery

In the frame of GMES programme, PREVIEW aims to improve, enhance high resolution satellite imagery for geo-information services, based on satellite monitoring and other observation techniques, for risk management users to manage natural and man-made disasters.

Photogrammetry is used to measure the precise dimensions of surface of our Earth, such as the area of a farmer's field, to the heights of buildings or the width of roads. Its basic principle is to determine the latitude, longitude and altitude of a remote location by measuring it from two or more distant viewpoints. By using high resolution satellite imagery from at least two different locations, "lines of sight" can be measured from the sensor(s) to points on the distant object. Photogrammetry thus builds a network of triangulated measurements, and captures these three-dimensional remote coordinates in relation to their origin environment.
